Because this post really has no theme, I just thought I'd include a total non sequitur image (and hey, I could go for a long shot and say there are people sleeping in this pic and my post DOES talk about sleeping...). Hey, at least this person was A: Toasty. B: Anonymous (great to market to any celeb) C. And totally on trend (those colors are SO HOT right now!
Dear Ether,
I just wanted to say a quick hello before I went back to sleep. I didn’t feel very good today, went to a meeting despite feeling like rubbish, and then got back into bed. English gent is wearing a face mask and declares Swine Flu! But I think I’m just run down (I’m kidding about the Swine Flu but not about the mask….
) I’ve taken some Nyquil/Night Nurse and hope to be in a green capsule daze soon (actually, I really don’t need that amateur stuff for slumber. I’ve got Dr. W’s goods. But, hopefully this will unblock my nose and ease up my throat).
My meeting was very exciting and was about my future with my newest freelancing gig (which is the one I love the most). My Editor is a DOLL and immediately assigned me two more pieces (really quirky and fun, I’l tell you about them later) and told me that she should have good amounts of work for me since the department I was writing for was growing. I asked her to please consider me for a permanent position if one were ever to arise and she gave me her word she would. She said she’d also keep her eyes peeled for positions internally posted. I NEVER put my eggs in one basket and I don’t trust anyone EVER, but I hope this Editor is an honest one who comes through, because I’m in love with this gig.
My first feature came out today, and when I saw my byline along with a 1,200 word article, I really choked up. I felt like a writer again–a real journalist, not just a star fucker. It came out in the Sunday edition so it must have been read by loads of weekenders–and remember–it isn’t always about the dosh for me. It’s about that lady unwinding on her Sunday after her long work week and picking up the fun part of the paper and reading my piece and smiling. My next feature, another 1,200 word beauty, is making headlines within the next fortnight. This is the one I’m crazy about. It’s the spec piece that got me the gig to begin with. They normally don’t take this type of feature as it’s an opinion piece (by me) and it really meant a lot that it got printed in this publication, particularly because of its prestige. You see, I tried to sell it to lower grade glossies and no one was biting. To see it come alive in this newspaper is a real honor.
Going to see “An Education” with shoe gal and another one of her fab friends (Thursday) who owns a very famous restaurant here in Los Angeles. The friend is sassy and I like her a lot. But she’s married to a guy with a BAD TOUPEE–what’s with me and running into people with bad hair-pieces? She’s a bit of a cougar and a lot of fun! Maybe a new friend in the making?
English gent and I have spent a few peaceful evenings together. And though we do have our shorts spats, we try and hold our tongues and get along. Hey, at least we’re in the same room together right? Regardless, he’s my best mate and still owns a bit of real-estate in my heart so we have to see what happens. From my stats it seems like you Ethers really liked that piece about our courtship! I guess I’ll have to tell you a bit more about our walks down memory lane. And what a wild, crazy path it was and still is!
I hope you’re all well. I’m devastated that Internet Explorer is still banning people from my site (is this so—can you let me know for sure?) and that folks can’t read when they want to escape from doing work AT work and their damned computers only allow them to search via IE. My host can’t figure it out, Wordpress says it can’t fix it as they can’t see a problem (both say THEY can view it fine on IE on their servers) so, I am extremely confused! Regardless, I’ve gotten some lovely E-mails from the blog. Do continue to write. Those who HAVE can attest to the fact that I DO indeed reply…..and like my hideously lengthy posts (remember this was supposed to be like 2 lines–I’m at 732 words) I write back a generous amount! Anything you wanna get off your chest, any questions about a post—write me.
Okay, back to bed (I think when I die, and if I don’t get cremated, I’ll get a coffin that looks like a bed….it makes sense….it’s where I was happiest and spent most of my days!). I have an adorable pooch snuggled up at the foot of my bed, of course on my cashmere throw (what a prince) and some good books I’m in the middle of. Oh, and of course a few cookies by my side table
I know many of you have already gone to bed–or will be seeing this in the morning–so I will just say–as I usually do–
Dedicatedly yours,

I don't think I've had as much fun as THESE guys. But, I've had my fair share of going out this week and I just wanted to give you an update on what I've been up to. It's rather positive---rare from this old gal. Enjoy it while it lasts........
Dear Ethers,
La-dee-da. I’ve been going out in this town called Holly-weird and meeting some very unusual people at some very unusual venues. It’s really odd what I’ve been up to lately, and my life has seemed like a blur this past week.
So, here is my giant and glam update.
As mentioned, I went to this party thrown by shoe gal. It was an Indian themed night and she hired local women who are brilliant chefs from India to cook massive amounts of the most amazing curries, meats, lentils (I could go on) that you could imagine. My only complaint: no chuntey (what’s wrong with this country!). Her house is a lovely home just off Rodeo Drive and is an Art Deco/Spanish style beauty from the 1920’a that is in impeccable condition and decorated with impeccable taste. To add true Indian flavor to the night, she had a few members of the cast of Slumdog Millionaire (no, sadly not Frieda Pinto or Dev Patel) and gave beautiful embroidered pashminas as presents for coming. I think the highlight for her was seeing Kiefer Sutherland in her home (she’s a huge 24 fan). She sheepishly got the photographer to snap myself and another one of her friends with him (cringe-worthy—especially after seeing the picture). He was actually really lovely. But the weirdest person to show up was this bonkers Arab prince who brought an escort (no, like a 1-900-babe escort) and his bodyguards and I swear to god he was nuts and high on something and it wasn’t Allah.
The next night our new royal friend invited us out to a jazz bar he shut down for the evening, treated us to an amazing show of music and dancing and the most delicious food ever (the bill evidently came to $5,000 for 9 people, a very sneaky guest told us). The champagne and conversation flowed and he, again, was bonkers. From the shirt open to his midriff with chest hair bursting out and a gold medallion sitting on top of its puffs, to his toupee dancing as much as he did that night—it was certainly errrm, different. He’s staying in a cabana in the Beverly Hills Hotel (it is to die for) and the room costs $4,500 A NIGHT! And he is staying for 6 months!!!!!!!!! I’ll just let you ponder all the nice things you could do with the money like I did when I first heard the numbers.
Then, last night, I had the most AMAZING evening. I was invited to an exclusive Chanel dinner honoring their fine jewelry collection. A very small number of us sat at a pre-set dinner on top of the boutique in Beverly Hills where the chef from Lucques made us a 5-course meal with wines to match each dish. The room was dimly lit with Chanel votives scented with No. 5 and their signature white camellias. When I went out for a cigarette, the balcony had amazing couches and the view of the city was sparkling. The backdrop of the building was of dozens of double C’s lit in white. Marvelous. The best part was when the models, all donning Chanel, came out wearing the jewels. All of us got to wear them and I sat with a 2 million dollar diamond collar around my neck (the center stone was 8 carats!). I was so nervous that they thought I was going to do a runner that I kept looking at security reassuringly. They gave us as a parting favor a rare bottle of Chanel Beige EDT which costs $200 (that’s $100 a ml!).
So all in all it’s been an adventurous week. However, I feel guilty that English gent couldn’t join me for the festivities. Shoe gal is really big on it being all girls when she invites people…….so he wasn’t invited to the party nor the jazz club. Her attitude is, if she doesn’t bring her man, she doesn’t want you bringing yours either. I like it in a way, because it allows me to mingle with potential new friends. And in fact, I have made one or two new possible friendships out of these nights out. I think if English gent HAD been there, I might have been attached to him too much and may not have been as gregarious and keen to talk. It’s really nice having girlfriends and I like shoe gal’s philosophy. But there is guilt that he is left home a lot. We are going out to dinner this evening and I hope that we will get a chance to catch up then. But, the truth is when we are at home together, we don’t really do much. So I feel when I DO get the opportunity to go out, I should take it. Why sit home twirling my fingers when I could be out living life?
Besides that, I’ve got the normal worries about work. My company that I freelance for just lost 500 employees which, as I mentioned before, trickles down to me. Work will be scarce. I really am so desperate to get on that oh-so-coveted ladder and have terrible anxiety everyday about it. I want out of this house and freedom. I want to have independence. I want to know if I am building a nest here or not. These are all very worrisome questions.
I hope you are all well. I love talking to you guys. It’s so nice to have a chat and be able to open up. If you ever have any questions or if you ever want to open up yourself, e-mail me. I love getting e-mails and you know I’m a comment fiend. I can’t believe tomorrow is Fashion Friday! Seriously, I feel like it was yesterday that I was snapping my leggings and star top from my last post. UGH, I am so fat, what am I going to bloody wear for you people. Good thing you can’t see back shots. That way if nothing zips, I’ll be okay to still photograph myself in it.
Until my closet seeks your eyes out tomorrow.
Dedicatedly yours,

Dear Ethers,
I can’t believe that I missed a week of my beloved “Fashion Fridays!” I must admit, when the end of the week comes, I do get quite nervous about what ensemble I will pick from the disaster zone that is my room. But when it all comes together on the page, it’s always a bit off fun to share a frock with friends.
This week is very simple. I thought I’d ease back into things with something very orignal that stands on its own without any baubles or accessories that you can just appreciate for being unique. I found this dress at a very small boutique on Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles (a main drag in L.A. with lots of hip restaurants and shops etc…) and sadly can’t recall its name! I know if I pass it again, I will pop back in for some more juicy goods (though the place is super overpriced). The shop is a vintage store but everything they sell is in pristine condition. But, they really hike their prices up in a nutty way. I looked at a cute top that should have MAX been $50 and it was $150!!! It has things that would make you drool, but the prices, alas, are too cruel………except for this one little rack in the corner. Now, Ethers you should know me by now. Am I not the queen bee of bargaining and finding a sale even when not advertised!?! Indeed! So, the deal with this rack is that anything that’s been sitting in the store for over 6 months that hasn’t sold, they mark down like mad. I liked a lot of things, but either the sizes were off, or they were still very expensive because they started off with high ticket tags–and really, you can only mark something down so much. But then……I found MY dress! It was the type of thing that I knew no one would like. The colors were kinda weird and the shape was odd. It was heavily pleated. But it looked so much like an Issey Miyake Pleats Please piece and I really was curious how it would look on. And it had originally been $200 and was now $20. Oh, and I loved that the label said made in London
As soon as I slipped it on, I fell in love. I think the women in the store were shocked and thought I was bonkers, but were happy to be rid of it and I walked away a happy camper. I think it looks designer, cutting-edge and it must have looked futuristic when it was designed all those years ago. You can dress it up or wear it casually. It’s definitely a lighter-weather dress, but living in L.A.–I think I can get away with it for a few extra months out of the year.
As for the shoes. Bought at my favorite palace o’prices, Loehmann’s. I love how they are a unique putty color with a semi-gladiator wedge that remind me so much of what women wore in old Italian films. I can just see a lovely bella walking with a basket, a full skirt and these shoes on a cobbled street where a outdoor market is being held and she’s perusing the goods. They are comfy and they match the dress well. They were a bargain….$30! So, this whole ensemble cost $50!! Not too shabby. This is why I love hunting for deals and one-off’s. You look original and you save a bundle. So, let’s welcome back “Fashion Fridays!” and I will try not to miss another week…….well, until another catastrophe hits…….oy vay!

I think the color combo is so unique, the pleating is original and the cut (especially at the chest) is like nothing I've seen before. I think it's very fun, and something I could see a groovy 70's chica wearing to stand out from the boring crowd and making a little fashion statement to the world--especially in Blighty! I look tres curvy in this ensemble, no? Well, this might be my new sex-bomb outfit! As mentioned, I can't remember the name of the shop. But it was made in England, bought in L.A. and I spent a bargain price of $20 for it!

These have been great summer shoes. They are a versatile shade so they look lovely with browns and whites and they happen to match this dress perfectly! I like the semi-gladiator aspect to them, but that they don't look like the typical, boring sandals everyone else can get. The wedge gives a nice height and they are super comfy. I also love the ties. These just remind me of Rome or somewhere hot and European. As mentioned, these were purchased from the palace of prices, Loehmann's for $30 in Los Angeles

Awww, isn't it lovely? Nutty to charge $200 smackaroos for it, but I'm sure glad that I scored it and that it was dangling on the "nobody wants me rack." Guys, that is often the BEST place to find the awesome deals. It's in perfect condition, it stretches to your body so if you eat a heavy lunch...well, you get my drift. I think it is a classic and the pleating is brilliant. I'm ashamed I can't remember the name of the shop it is from, but if I do, I will update the post.
